Clearer local guidance for home EV charging
EV Council Check is an independent information service that helps UK residents understand their local council’s published position on cross-pavement electric vehicle charging.
Council rules can differ significantly across the UK. Some councils accept applications for approved pavement channels, some operate limited trials, while others do not currently permit these solutions. Our aim is to make that information easier to find and understand.
Why EV Council Check exists
Residents without private driveways often face uncertainty when considering home EV charging. Information may be spread across council transport pages, highway guidance, application forms, cabinet reports and trial announcements.
EV Council Check brings the available information into one searchable place. Each reviewed record explains the council’s published position in plain English and links visitors back to the relevant official source.
Our goal
To help residents identify the right council guidance before purchasing equipment, applying for permission or arranging cross-pavement charging work.

How council information is researched
We prioritise information published directly by councils and relevant highway authorities. This may include policy pages, licensing guidance, application forms, public consultations, cabinet reports and official trial announcements.
- Official council sources are prioritised.
- Active schemes are separated from planned or limited trials.
- Important eligibility and licensing conditions are recorded.
- Commercial supplier claims are not treated as council approval.
- Records are updated when new official information is identified.
An information service—not an approval authority
We do not approve installations
Only the relevant council, highway authority or other authorised body can grant permission.
We do not provide legal advice
Information on this website is general guidance and should not replace professional or official advice.
We do not guarantee parking access
An approved charging channel normally does not reserve a parking space outside a property.
We do not represent councils
EV Council Check is independent and is not operated or endorsed by any council or government body.
Independent and regularly developing
EV Council Check is an independent project. Council policies, trial availability, costs and eligibility requirements can change without notice.
Visitors should always read the linked official guidance and confirm the latest position with their council before purchasing equipment or arranging work.
